Excessively large seed coatings require much higher sowing rates and can be less responsive in lower rainfall events. We are often hearing frustration from growers that even after large rainfall events, coated seed is still intact in the paddock from other suppliers.
We are seeing increasing resistance in the agricultural market to this approach, our clients understand the benefits of seed enhancement, but don’t want excessive seed coats.
Every treatment we do must be beneficial and increase the chances of establishment for the seed.

We hold an extensive inventory of thousands of kilograms of native seeds, from both provenance and general harvests.
The implementation of Progressive Rehabilitation and closure plans have resulted in a massive expansion in Mining rehabilitation, and demand for native seed now exceeds supply . It is vital that we improve establishment rates, to maximise yields and use less seed per hectare which is the focus for Terralogica.
As grazing will be a significant post mining land use in Queensland, native grasses and tropical pasture grasses are an important contributor to the seed mix and Terralogica continues to develop in this area.
In mining rehabilitation environments with steep slopes and poor moisture retention, large seed coats can be detrimental to rapid establishment which is vital for erosion protection.
Lower cost, generic agricultural pasture seeds are not specifically designed for this environment and for this reason, we are continuing to develop our range of specialty mining products.

With our origins in land rehabilitation, pasture grasses have always been a significant part of our sowing mixes.
In addition to our rehabilitation clients, we serve a large agricultural base and are proudly contributing in the rapidly developing regenerative agriculture and carbon farming spaces.
We produce and distribute a range of high quality, Australian grown, tropical pasture grass, and legume seeds as well as offering custom seed treatments for farmers own seed.

We use the term “seed enhancement” in preference to the more commonly used term of “seed coating”.
Seed enhancement is any process which is used to promote germination and establishment of a seed. Seed enhancement cannot improve the fundamental viability of a seed, but it does improve the chances of successful establishment. Some of the benefits of seed enhancement are:
- Improved flowability, particularly for fluffy/hairy pasture seeds. This is important for tropicals such as blue grasses and buffels, which are very difficult to handle in bare form.
- Improved uniformity and ballistics for easier seed delivery and calibration through seed drills, and precision seeders.
- Inoculants, nutrients, and other beneficials can be applied close to the seed for uptake during germination.
- Insecticides and fungicides reduce predation and provide added protection.
Terralogica is focused on developing “seed applied technology” which is the application of beneficial treatments to the seed itself. Our products feature the lowest application rates possible to achieve the desired results.
